Age 45-75 Years are the Most Productive Years of Life

No question; Age 45 years to 75 years are the most productive years of life!

You can search on every search engine, you will come to a conclusion that the age 45 to 75 years is the most productive age group, but there is one string attached. You must be healthy! If you are not, then it is easy to lose all your achievements, your money and your piece of mind.

While 45 to 75 years of age is most productive for us, but from healthcare viewpoint, it is most prone to set back.

• When Jawaharlal Nehru became prime minister of India, he was almost 60 years old.
• Our current prime minister Narendra Modi is 69 years old.
• Sonia Gandhi who rules Congress Party is in her 70’s.
• Current President is United States, Donald Trump is in his 70’s.
• The average age of American Presidents for the last 200 years is 55 years.
• The youngest president, John F. Kennedy was in early 40’s and the oldest president was Ronald Reagan elected at the age of almost 70 years old.

Same is true in case of Nobel laureates. The average age when awarded the Nobel Prize is 59 for the laureates in all prize categories between 1901 and 2019. The most frequent age bracket is 60-64.

I remember when I was in the eighth grade, I always felt jealous of the teachers that they are so lucky., they do not have to take exams. It was all easy for them. I wished I was a teacher. So, I got a chance to become one. I thought for a year in Maulana Azad Medical College and for a year in Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi and suddenly realized that how challenging the job of a teacher is.

Really, in a middle-class family our years are already structured for 35 to 40 years of our life. We go to kindergarten; we go through all the schooling from schools and colleges. When we start our job, reach a certain level, get married and have couple of children, we are already in our 40s.

Every phase of life is different, and every phase of life is equally challenging. It may even be more challenging for a 1 year old who is trying to master running around on his two feet. There is no reason for us to be jealous of the young people because they are young. Sooner or later, they will also grow older and wiser. Also, every phase of life has its pros and cons. We learn from past and live is present and plan for a safer, happier and healthier future.

“Age is a question of mind over matter; If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

Years from 45 to 75 are the most productive years of life: One very simple reason is we are very productive because we are focused. I remember, when I was young and in medical college, I spent three days reading the book ‘Gone with the Wind’ during my vacation and today I would love to read a fiction novel, but it is just not practical.

People at this stage sometimes find it hard to sit for three hours in a movie theatre but when you are young in the college, you can spend one day here, one day there or couple of days just reading a book, reading magazines, being lazy.

What I am saying is, between 45 to 75 years, life becomes very focused and as per my calculation the one year of achievement in 40 years and 50 years of age group is almost equal to five years of achievement in our younger years.

This is a myth that only children in school, in kindergarten, primary school, middle school, high school and college enjoy life. If you look at the reality of life, actually life is equally or more enjoyable when you get to 45 years of age to 75 years of age; when you are the CEO of some Big Multinational or Head of an Organization or Principal of a school or college or among senior most members of a family.
